Description

Crimping Pliers
  • The original patented crimping pliers - made for crimping 2mm wide crimp beads on wire and cord measuring .015 in. diameter and higher. If you are working with smaller crimps or wire, check out the NEW Micro Crimpers and our Micro crimp beads.
  • The crimper is a hand-tool which forms a smooth unobtrusive crimp, banishing forever the unsightly sharp-edged crimp formed by conventional flattening methods. It forms a finished crimp whose diameter is smaller than the original crimp bead. If desired the crimp can be hidden in a crimp bead cover, a clamshell type bead tip, or slipped into a large-holed bead.
  • Measurements: Pliers are 5.25 inches long, tips are 2.5mm at the narrowest point. Lap joint construction.
  • NOTE: These pliers are intended for beading and other fine hobby work. Not recommended for heavy duty applications such as automotive, home improvement, or maritime use.
  • If you are unfamiliar with the way crimping pliers work, please read the following and consult the diagram at lower left. THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR PLIERS. It's actually very easy to do - after following the instructions once, you probably won't need them ever again.
  • (See diagram). After the last bead (A), the jewelry wire or monofilament (B) is passed throught the crimp bead (C) - around the clasp or jump-ring (D) - back through the crimp (C) - and optionally back through the last bead (A).
  • In Step 1, the crimp bead or tube is fully secured to the cord in the crimping station (E). Best results are obtained when the two wires are positioned on either side of the center dimple. The resulting crimped bead now has a valley or dimple in the middle. In Step 2, the final shaping is carried out in the rounding station (F), where the bead is, in essence, folded over itself and compacted, making it smaller and causing it to grip the wire or cord very tightly.

5A Must For Any Beader  May 23, 2009 By V. Canfield
This is a pretty simple tool, but every beader MUST have one. I have this particular model and it has never failed me. Basically one opening on the tool bends the crimp bead in to a kind of a "u" shape and the other opening closes the "u" to form a smooth, compact "o".

3Decent  Jan 06, 2011 By Jane Doe
Generally a good buy. This is my 1st pair of crimpers so I have nothing to compare to except my own expectations. The "crimp" point is not centered. I do not know if this is by design or poor quality control. Being uncentered means that beads do not get crimped exactly in half and thus do not end up nice and even. Once crimped, placing the bead into the ~rounding~ portion of the tool (2nd crimp) is difficult; the bead wants to rotate and not stay aligned long enough to apply pressure in the desired direction. This might be solved by applying some sort of texture or grip (like Plasti Dip) inside the 2nd crimp section of the pliers.

5Does the job better than expected...  Dec 20, 2011 By Relytia
I'm a beginner when it comes to beading. And when I found an easier way to finish my pieces I was thrilled, though a little skeptical. But when I finally received the crimping pliers along with the crimp beads I went straight to my desk to try it out. I couldn't believe how easy and flawlessly it worked. First you have to place the crimp bead in the second inner form of the pliers and bite down. It creates a "c" shape and then you slide to the form nearest to the nose of the pliers. With some pressure you get a nicely crimped bead that holds tightly around a thin flexible wire, which is what I used, but I have seen it also used with knotted thread on some of the gemstone jewelry I had received as gifts in the past. The point is these pliers work great and are great quality from what I can tell. I can't imagine they would ever brake considering what a delicate job they were made to do in the first place. If this is something you need for your jewelry making, don't hesitate buying them, you won't regret it.
