5R. McMahon  Aug 22, 2009 By R. McMahon
Excellent cheap import set for repairing larger threads and light cutting. 5 stars for what it is. A $50 set is not going to do what a $800 set does. It meets my needs to mainly restore buggered or galled threads and sometimes cut new threads. works great to extend sizes on exisiting sets. Caution with the dies because they are very brittle. Round dies are suppose to be adjustable but if you try to open these they are likely to split. I split one and now snug the two outside screws before tighting the center. Defeats the reason for using a round die set. Dies are etched not engraved. Sizes are on the case positions too. Nice case and multiple die and tap holders. Always use the right cutting oil. Ended up not buying from Amazon because the seller [...] would not honor their price. Bought thru eBay SAE and metric sets for a C-note for both. They are the titanium nitride coated tungsten steel which look good and hopefully keep from rusting. It only takes a couple of uses to pay for itself. Would buy again.

4Did the job  Oct 24, 2009 By Scott
I had to buy this whole set just for one large die to fix galled threads on a truck steering gearbox sector shaft. It did the job, so I'm happy. The die holder is nice in that both shafts screw in, so either side can be removed for turning in tight places. The instructions had so many terrible spelling & grammar errors, that it's difficult to understand, and obviously transcribed by someone who didn't know English at all. It ticks me off that the company couldn't pay an American college student $10 to type it correctly. But, I didn't really need instructions; I just needed the cheapest set that contained the die, which no one carried locally. I'm no mechanic so this will get little use, but it paid for itself with this one job, and I might need it again someday.
