Great Wet Tile Saw for the Money for the DIY Homeowner Jun 04, 2010

I was looking for a wet tile saw to cut some travertine to do a bathroom floor. I am a homeowner so I don't need a bigger industrial model. I just wanted something that would do the job economically and accurately.
I checked out a lot of tile saws, and settled on this one by Neiko. It is listed on lots of various websites under different names, but they all seem to be from the same Chinese manufacturer since the pictures all look the same. I got mine from Amazon and paid less than $40, plus about $25 S&H.
The saw is great, but the blade that came with it is worthless. The blade would not even make one cut in the travertine. I expected this because lots of the reviews on this model said so. So I went to my local Harbor Freight and bought their basic wet diamond blade for about $25. It worked perfect. I cut about 150 travertine tiles up to 18" long (a lot were double cuts) with no issues at all.
What I like about this saw is the good construction for the price. The metal is heavy, the mounts are strong, the table is good metal, and the rip fence is metal and clamps securely. Just set the rip fence to your dimension and cut all day without moving it once. I never trust the measuring scale that is on these tables. I always use a measuring tape to set up my dimensions. But I was pleased to see that this table dimension scale was accurate.
The only other thing that can be improved about the saw (other than the blade) is the water reservoir. It is small and you have to keep adding water to keep the blade wet. I just kept a garden hose handy and that was fine. The saw also throws a lot of water from the blade, but most wet saws do.
Overall, a very good saw for the money for the DIY homeowner. But you HAVE to replace the blade. Make sure you factor that expense into your purchase decision. I never used this saw on anything harder than travertine. I think with a good blade it would be fine on anything, including granite tiles. It is definitely above average in this price range. I would have given it 5 stars if it came with a decent blade.
