That string closes the scissors, and the scissors are useful for lopping off twigs that would just bend under the saw. The saw is thin but functional. A stiffer blade, even if it were shorter, would be a valuable option. No assembly instructions, no picture of the assembled product arrives with the product (but the picture from this web site is sufficient). Design flaw: the pole is long, but does not stay extended. The pole uses a "twist to tighten, twist to loosen" mechanism. This means that when using the saw or scissors you must avoid twisting the pole. You should avoid twisting the saw, anyway. A locking pin mechanism would have been more functional. Patience and practice and prune modestly.
