Excellent transfer punch set Apr 27, 2012
By R. Johns I'm not sure what the other "one star" reviewer is talking about. I have these punches and use them all the time. They are super quality and work great. With that said, if you are attempting to transfer punch on hardened steel or something, then sure, maybe that might negatively affect the point. I don't believe these punches are hardened, but so far I have never had any problems with them. Generally speaking, you wouldn't/shouldn't transfer punch into hardened steel, because for machining/drilling operations, you would ideally anneal the working surface or material prior to machining anyway.
Also, these are not center punches. They are only designed to transfer the center of the hole. As such, a very light punch is all that's required. Either that or use some blue dyken on the tip and lightly touch off on the surface - then come back with a hardened center punch to punch and/or use a center drill, etc. to start a hole, etc.
For the money, this is one of my best purchases via amazon. As long as you don't abuse the transfer punch set, then it's invaluable to have around in the shop. Highly recommended.

Transfer punches Mar 23, 2010
By Jaybird These punches are good for one punch and thats it. Unless you have a lathe to sharpen these after every use, then don't bye them.
